Mbalamwezi Music Challenge | Launching 2020

Held in honor of Dullah Mbalamwezi Acoustic one of the first youth to join FASDO when it started in 2009. Mbalamwezi's young life was brutally cut short on 16 August 2019 at the age of 27 years. He was one of the emerging music talents. His skill in playing instruments, singing and dancing was undisputable. FASDO will continue to promote the music of the youth in Tanzania through this challenge every year. To launch the challenge, FASDO together with their Music Goodwill Ambassadors - Rhino and Hamadai, will be searching for a young musician to join the Mafik. Selected youth will join The Mafik in honoring the Late Mbalamwezi. 


Eligibility and Criteria


The award is open only for youth from Tanzania under 28 years old at the time of registration. The participant should be able to play music instrument/s. Sing and dance.The evaluation will based on the following conditions:

  • The participant should be able to play music instrument/s, sing and dance.
  • Creativeness, Expression, Uniqueness and Cleanness/presentation.
  • Song should focus on African culture, heritage, and actuality.
  • Song should be suitable for public (i.e. not obscene, offensive or indecent) and must not have been submitted in other contests.
  • Song must be 100% the participant creation.

Deadlines


  • February 29: Work submission
  • March 15: Announcement of twenty best candidates
  • March 27 – 28: Twenty best candidates Audition to select five finalists
  • April14 - April  19: Bootcamp
  • April 20: Winner announced

Screening Process


After the deadline of submission all the applications will be screened by the experts in the music industry to acquire top 20 entries.

These top 20 applicants will attend their first jury panel where they will showcase  their music skills from which the top 5 entrants will be chosen.

These top 5 talented young musician finalists will attend a 6 day boot camp where they will be trained and coached. At this boot camp, they will refine their music skills and attend the final jury panel where the final winner will be chosen.
